Anne Curtis tried being a rag vendor on the streets for a day

Anne Curtis tried being a rag vendor on the streets for a day.

Lent is a reflective religious observance in the Christian Liturgical Calendar which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at roughly 3 weeks later just three days before Easter Sunday. Its purpose is to prepare a faithful Christian through prayer, penance, repentance, almsgiving, and self-denial.

In the Philippines, Filipinos strictly observe the customs and practices during Lent. This season is an opportunity for them to live out their religious convictions. Some would strictly observe fasting and abstinence, and they would even give up luxuries to partake in the sufferings of Jesus Christ in his 40-day journey in the desert. Almost everyone in the country stops from their usual daily routine to take time to practice their traditions. Because of this, even TV personalities take a break from their jobs as celebrities. This means that TV schedules will temporarily be interrupted. The usual shows are replaced by Lenten specials that are pre-recorded and are just played automatically.

Just recently, Anne made a buzz on social media as she pretended to be a rag vendor. Her video quickly became a trending topic as people viewed her video while doing the job.

In the 2018 Lenten Special of the hit noon-time variety show of the ABS-CBN network, It's Showtime, the gorgeous Anne Curtis had to put her feet on the shoes of a rag vendor on the streets. It is said that you can never fully understand the plight of others unless you experience their lives at first-hand. The 33-year-old actress and TV host disguised herself as a vendor just for a day to help Maring and Carlos Cinco in their daily livelihood of selling rags on a footbridge and on the busy roads. Anne had to dress like a legit rag vendor to avoid drawing the attention of many people and to have a fully authentic experience.

Anne shared her experience after the whole thing was done. She told about how hard it was especially because of the weight of all the rags that she had to sell. She admitted: "Ilalagay mo kasi iyong sarili mo on a daily basis kung anong ginagawa nila para kumita ng pera. Kailangan ko gawin bitbitin lahat ng ginawa nilang basahan. Sobrang bigat. Dadaanan ka lang nila".

At the end of the whole experience, she managed to sell all of the rags, despite being seized by some authorities. She narrated: "So habang nasa taas ako, kinausap ako ng barangay officer na bawal talaga magbenta sa foot bridge. Nakakaharang daw sa mga dumadaan. Ayun, so we have to respect the law kaya umalis kami kaagad".

The act of the beautiful actress has attracted a lot of positive feedback from social media users. People started to realize how hard it was for people who were doing this kind of job. They started to empathize with the hardships and struggles that people who barely have anything to live with are experiencing. Some of Anne's fans praised her for doing a good job in her portrayal of the role in a real-life setting. Some even commended the show for its brilliant idea to help people in need this Lenten season.

Do you think you can do what Anne just did? Will you be able to handle being a rag vendor even just for a day? We hope you enjoyed reading the article. Thank you.
