Siargao is a teardrop-shaped island in the province of Surigao del Norte in Mindanao. The island contains the largest mangrove forest reserves in Mindanao at Del Carmen. It is the home of "Cloud 9", one of the most well-known surfing waves in the country, with a reputation for thick, hollow tubes. It was discovered by traveling surfers in the late 1980s. Its name was derived from a chocolate bar of the same name. American photographer John Seaton Callahan was the one who named the wave.
